ABSTRACT:

Entire world is going through health crisis due of COVID-19. There is a huge urge in all the doctors, scientists and government officials to find the vaccine for the pandemic spread. Since the world is facing completely new and dreadful diseases, the role of media especially television has played a very positive and responsible role in keeping the countrymen calm and motivated. Television is playing a crucial role where the government and the officials are able to connect with the general public in spreading the quick and fast appeals and guidelines in battling the crisis worldwide. The people feel emotionally connected with television and feel secured and safe with the daily updates and information given out by this old medium. In this scenario, it is quite possible that the country faces a huge situation of riots, panic and disturbed environment which may lead to another big disaster in the country along with the spread of the deadly virus. To keep this situation in control and keeping the best of calmness and peace in the country, the television and news makers have played a crucial role in combating with rumors and spreading a positive and motivated atmosphere in the country. It is turned out to be the most serious box from the silliest box from idiot box to patriot box.

KEYWORDS: COVID-19, Global lockdown, Old media, television.

INTRODUCTION:

Research Methodology:

This paper is a review based paper where in different news articles, journals and previous studies have been reviewed to attain objectives of the research. The nature of the research will be descriptive and exploratory because the researcher is describing the COVID-19 epidemic and trying to explore the role of the television in creating a panic free environment in the lockdown situation in India. The research data is be collected from the secondary data.

Findings:

The finding of this paper suggests that even when the most disastrous and most fearful situation is created in a country like India where the population is too large and the spread of news and fake news can cause huge damage and blow to the country, the media plays a very responsible and important role in creating a very positive and motivated environment among all the countrymen. The sensitivity of the country right now is very thin and people are bound to panic and may turn very impatient with the situation and lockdown in the country, hence it becomes very important that the people in the country don’t loose their cool and deal with the situation with maturity and responsibility in this crisis come on the entire world. In this the government finds the television the most valued medium to convey their information’s and appeals only via television. This medium proves to be the most effective when dealing with the people’s psychology and their frame of mind.

Limitations and Future Research:

The limitation of the study is that no primary data was collected. The paper is based on the information collected through secondary web sources like websites, articles, journals and blog articles. This paper illustrates that the media no matter in which country or in which language plays a very powerful role in decimating the information in and around the country and also bridging the gap between the government officials and the general public to appeal and send messages.

Since the topic of COVID-19 is very new and has been only two months and the situation like global lockdown which is the biggest and has taken place first time in past 100 years, there is a bright scope for the future research and lot more studies to be conducted with primary data.

Research Objectives:

The main objective of this paper is to define the role of the media, especially television, in keeping the atmosphere of the country positive and motivated. It is boosting each one of us to be safe and be helpful for society. The researchers will also try to show that the media is plays the most important role in spreading awareness and sending out positive messages, which in turn are encouraging to the general public and creating a picture of overcoming this disaster together. Moreover, the authors will also narrate how television is encouraging the country people of each age group and region to keep themselves calm and compose and do not lose hope. It is plays a crucial role in encouraging the people to be responsible, matured, and helpful towards each other and society to overcome this crisis.

At the end, the authors have also developed a happy and positive model of television.

INTRODUCTION:

The whole world is suffering from pandemic with active lockdown in country. This is due to onset of corona virus affecting people. Viruses causing diseases often have different names. Viral diseases like chickenpox, Flu Herpes, HIV/AIDS, mumps, measles, shingles, viral gastroenteritis, viral hepatitis, viral meningitis, and viral pneumonia are contagious. Cold is the most common viral disease and is caused by a viral infection of nose and throat. The virus diseases are easily transmitted from person to person and virus get multiplied quickly in body after making entry. The medium of viral disease transmission can be through following ways (grades, 2020):

·       Breathing in virus infected air

·       Consumption of contaminated food or water

·       Relationship with people infected with severe viral disease

·       Touching surfaces contaminated with virus

·       Carrier of virus called as host like mosquito, mouse, and bats

The result of virus disease are reflected through various symptoms like loss of appetite, lessen breathing capabilities, restlessness, anxiety, poor concentration, dehydration, etc. There are no solutions of viral diseases as allopathic medicines namely antibiotics only control or kill bacterial infections. Most common viral disease like cold, flu is self limiting and person immunity takes control over it. When a virus increases its spread and start affecting masses across the world it becomes pandemic disease. Presently the world is going through challenging times of countering the attack of corona virus spread disease COVID 19.

Understanding Coronaviruses, what are these?

Coronaviruses belong to the family of coronaviridae. These are from cluster of viruses that cause disease affecting respiratory function of the body. These viruses are believed off to be the cause of disease in mammals and birds. Human body is also being observed of being affected with several coronaviruses resulting in low performance of bodily functions especially ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), COVID- 19. The living species affected with the disease caused by coronavirus reflects symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections in chickens, diarrhea in pigs and cows. Till time no vaccines or anti viral drugs has been discovered to combat infections caused by coronavirus.

Perspectives of known National and International Health organization on COVID- 19:

As per World Health Organisation (WHO), “COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019” (Organization, 2020)

Naming the virus as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) can lead to consequences of increased fear in human population especially of Asia pacific as severe affect had been felt by residents in 2003. Hence WHO starts naming it as COVID-19 when communicating with public.

As per Centre for disease control and prevention (CDC) which is the America’s health protection agency, working 24/7 to protect America from health and safety threats and also is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services of America.

The cause of current global pandemic is a new coronavirus which are from a large group of viruses. This family of viruses are common in people and many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. People are less likely to be infected from animal coronaviruses but once people are infected then virus travel easily from person to person such as with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), and now with this new virus, named Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) the strain of virus that is the main accuse and cause of respiratory disease coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

The group of betacoronavirus consists of MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV and (SARS-CoV-2). Bats are the origins of all of these viruses. Initially China posted about occurrence of COVID- 19 and across the world suggestions are of this virus from an animal reservoir.

Wuhan, Hubei Province, of China is the epicenter of coronavirus as many of the citizens of China got infected with this pandemic virus. Live animal market and large seafood in China, initially suggested to have a link with spread of disease. A large number of patients were reported to have no exposure to animal markets which indicated person-to-person spread. Person-to-person spread was subsequently reported outside Hubei and in countries outside China, including in the United States. Most of countries have now ongoing community spread disease due to pandemic outbreak caused by COVID- 19. A good number of people in United States, Italy, Spain, and France are infected and it is not known how or where they became exposed (Prevention, 2019).

Coronavirus and lockdown in India:

Narendra Damodardas Modi, India’s Prime Minister took a proactive measure to stop the massive spread of corona virus in India by imposing a nationwide lockdown. Imposed restrictions enforced for 21 days and came into force at midnight local time (18:30 GMT). On 24 March, Mr. Modi announced to a total ban asking everyone to be in their homes. Before this orde, r a voluntary public curfew was observed on 22 March (from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.).

On 30th January 2020, the first case of the coronavirus pandemic in India was reported and is observed in the state of Kerala, when a university student from Wuhan traveled back to the state.

He also:

·       Emphasized to stop the transmission of communicable corona virus for 21 days lockdown is necessary

·       Mentioned that even various developed countries fail to stop the spread of virus

·       Social distancing is only way to combat the virus spread

·       To foster the country's health infrastructure, announced that approximately $2bn (£1.8bn) would be made available

·       Appealed to people refraining from being victims of fake news or rumors

Various Indian states put restrict travel and the closure of non-essential services. In a highly populous country India, all transportation services–road, air, and rail–was banned, exceptions was only given to fire, police, and medical emergency and for transportation of essential commodities. Hospitality services, and educational institutions, including school, college, universities, coachingtuition centers, and industrial establishments were also postponed. Essential services such as kiryana stores, banks, ATMs, and petrol pumps are exempted.

On the recommendations of state governments and other advisory committees prime minister extended the nationwide lockdown until 3 May, 2020. The state governments of Odisha and Punjab extended the state lockdowns until 1 May.

During national lockdown in the country, India, media has played an important role as all economies are on hold, working people, businesspersons, industries, public transportations, educational institutions, and almost every economic activity operation is suspended, except production and distribution of essential services. At this time, people are anxious to know about the development of policy decisions, their implementations, and what is happening in national and international arena. There are several mediums which are used by media organizations to reach people of diverse nature, such as television, radio, cinema, newspapers, magazines, and web-based communications. Amongst all communications used by media, television radio and are the most popular media, as this medium has never stopped giving accurate and authentic information to all. Considering huge public demand on social media, the most successful program of Indian television as of ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’ are re-broadcasted on Doordarshan so that people at homes can feel positive environment. Media in the country had always and is playing a major role by integrating the nation as one during this difficult time of virus pandemic.

Corona virus: A global pandemic:

Source of Coronavirus:

Wuhan, the central city of China popularly known for its operational wet market, where live poultry to snakes are sold initially found to be the source of the new coronavirus, as people who shopped or worked in this animal market found affected by this deadly virus. Live animals which are sold here may have transmitted these new influenza viruses to humans. Wang Yuedan, a professor of immunology at Peking University’s School of Basic Medical Sciences, said that the people of Wuhan prefer fresh meat over frozen meat. This fresh meat is from animals that are not aren’t properly quarantined or from wild making China susceptible to the risk of pathogen outbreaks through close animal and human contact. Close human contact with live animals appeared to be the cause of deadly viruses, as is true for Ebola, which came about as a result of eating animals from the forest in Africa. Takeshi Kasai, the World Health Organization’s regional director for the Western Pacific, in an interview with Bloomberg TV, said that the virus is likely not as devastating or communicable as SARS. Cases have been reported to spread of virus from person to person, but this does not appear to be of so. The virus outbreak is still avertable, as said, by Chinese authorities (Bloomberg, 2020,)

History of viruses in Asia:

The most deadly viruses have emerged from human contact with live animals.

Approximately 2 million deaths worldwide happened due to the Asian flu pandemic, according to the WHO. Deadly pathogens found their base in wet, which is widely available in Wuhan city, China. Another virus, SARS, may have originated in China, which traveled from bats to humans. According to a WHO statement, modernization and industrialization, which led to the migration of people from villages to urban areas, implied that disease outbreak events happen every week in the western Pacific region (Bloomberg, 2020).

Television in India and its impact:

Television was invented in the year 1926. It is the brainchild of John L Baired. Television has a great impact on our society and the people. They are influenced quickly by watching television, and it has changed the lifestyles of the many and has influenced majorly our culture. Unlike printing, which has taken hundreds of years to influence and create a great impact on our culture, TV’s impact is almost quick and instantaneous. It has taken an important position in Indian households, and therefore it is bound to make an impact on the individual and society as well. Television in India has developed as a major source of enlightenment, leisure, and infotainment. Television is a good medium when we talk about mass education. There are a large number of illiterate people in India and can be educated through television. Like, many activities can be taught through television, one of the activities is teaching many processes and steps about farming to Indian farmers through television. Through television, many uneducated people can be taught about their roles and responsibilities. It is one of the most effective media when creating awareness in the country. Television is a good link between the masses and the government.

Doordarshan was the first public broadcaster channel. It was inaugurated in the year 1959. From the year 1991, there was only one television channel, Doordarshan, the public service broadcaster. And, it was the only channel that gave the people both entertainments as well as news in and around the world. With the revolution of globalization, the Indian economy in the 1990s enabled the entry of private broadcasters in India. Number of television channels mushroomed in India. By 2005, India had more than 200 digital channels. The number of television channels grew from around 600 in 2010 to 800 in 2012. This included more than 400 news and current affairs channels. Each channel broadcasted has a specific category. No channel overlaps the entertainment or news. There are channels for news, for movies, for songs, for spirituality, for religious aspects and for serials known as daily soaps in Indian television. The television industry in India is very diverse and produces thousands of programs in many national and regional languages. Since 2016, TV viewership in India has risen up by 12% (Suneera Tandon, 2018). Although the high growth of smart phones and cheap internet services available, have given rise to on-demand entertainment networks like Hotstar and Netflix, Indians still prefer to watch their television.

There was a 7.5% increase in the number of TV-owning households across India to 197 million in 2018 (BARC’s). It also reported that the number of viewers also rose by 7.2% to 836 million. Hotstar, being the leading top video streaming platform in India, had just a little viewership of over 60 million users. “India is a country driven by family viewing and this shows in the increase in the number of TV households,” Partho Dasgupta, CEO of BARC India, said in a statement.

From the total population, around 66% of them, that is 300 million-odd Indian houses own TV sets. There is more money in the hands of rural consumers, which is around 65% of the country’s population, and this has led to a 10% growth in TV ownership in 2018, and in urban India, it rose up by 4% (Broadcast Audience Research Council, 2018). The average time spent by individuals watching TV in India grew by 3% in 2018. Indians spent 3 hours 44 minutes watching television on an average daily that is 4 hours and 6 minutes in urban India and 3 hours 27 minutes in rural India. With the data given above by BARC’s, it becomes very evident that television remains the most effective and most viewed platform for the Indians. In Figure 1, it is seen that television is becoming a necessity for every household. The sales of television are raising as the income of the people rises. Television has become an important part of the household. As seen, the sales of television have risen over the past 5 years. With so many channels aired right from the regional languages to international languages, channels for all generations- like kids channels to the channels for young to the channels for adults to channels for the old. Television has managed to grasp all the ages and almost all the interests of the livings. Right from the international programs to the national programs, it caters to the need of all viewers. Hence, television holds the highest mode of entertainment and information to the masses, so is its impact, which is very deep and powerful in shaping the thought process of the society and building a strong foundation of values, culture, and ethics of society. It becomes very conclusive that television holds a high impact power of building the atmosphere of society and shaping the psychology of the citizens of that country.

Figure 1: Penetration of Television in India in rural and Mega-cities.

Television: developing a positive atmosphere during lockdown:

India is the second most populated country in the world. With a population of about 1.37 billion or 1,369 million people, it becomes next to impossible to control these many people if there is a panic spread in the country. The population can be divided into two categories: one that lives in cities and the other that lives in villages. The city population can still be kept under control as there are educated people and tend to understand the law and order of the country. The village population is a type that is very united and is not well educated and tends to believe the neighbors more than the law and order. Today, about 70 per cent of India’s population lives in rural areas, that is, from 121 crores, 83.3 crores reside in rural areas, while 37.7 crores reside in urban areas (Census of India's 2011 Provisional Population Totals of Rural-Urban Distribution in the country). Since the maximum of the population is living in the villages and the threat of spreading any fake news becomes easier and more feasible. This could lead to a very dangerous and ugly situation in the country if not strictly checked. However, maintaining and keeping a strict check is not only limited to the police and lawmakers and government officials, it becomes a responsible job for the social media also to help in stopping the spread of any fake and instigating news that can cause panic in the country and destroy the peace set in the country. India is the largest market in usage of the Whatsapp application, having over 230 million users, can be one of the main platforms on which fake news can be spread. One of the main problems of the users of this application is that the receivers believe in anything sent to them over this media due to lack of awareness. Now, the repercussion of spreading this fake news through social media in the country has become a serious problem, as it has a potential, resulting in mob violence, where there was a case where at least 20 people were killed in 2018 as a result of misinformation circulated on social media. Due to the growth of Internet penetration in India, the damage caused by fake news on social media has increased drastically. The growth of Internet users has risen from 137 million in 2012 to over 600 million in 2019. However, Television cannot be underrated in India, as it also has great viewership and audience that stays glued to its programs and follow them religiously. The main purpose of television is to educate the people and keep them aware. This has been proven time and again. This is the time where it has shown its power that it is behind educating and shape society before and now also. In this time of disaster, where people want to hear from the government what is the scenario of this virus and society, television has played a very important role not only in educating the people about this deadly virus, but also the meaning of being united and following the rules to keep the country healthy and united.

Each channel on television has come up with some sort of advertisement that is only showcasing slogans like, Jeetega India Harega corona (India will win against Corona), Stay Home, Stay Safe. These slogans are becoming the national slogans of the country and are being advertised and advised by each company and by each channel. The television has a wide variety of channels in each language-national and regional. Each channel whether showing movies, news, songs, or any entertaining serials has commercial of “how to stay safe from Corona virus”. Famous channels like Colors, Star, Zee, and Sony, having a high number of viewers irrespective of urban or rural audience has taken a step to shoot their videos made by their leading stars of their most famous serials of the current year. They all have come together shooting their piece of videos at their homes by their mobile phones and advising the people of the country about the safety measures they can take to stay safe and fight the corona virus. This has put a positive impact on the people who watch them and follow their trends. Like the Sony Channel has made a commercial by putting all the videos made by their channel stars together encourage people to wear masks and wash their hands for 20 seconds after touching any foreign thing and advising them to stay home and stay safe. Bollywood stars have come together in their personal piece of video shot by themselves where they are sending out a message that we all will come out winners if we all stay united and follow the rules of lockdown and maintain social distancing. These videos whether in an advertisement form or in song form, have added a good motivating factor towards the country and are easily connected to the audiences of television. These videos are even sent on the mobile so that there is a good and positive spread of the awareness of the Covid-19 virus. The videos staring with celebrities and stars, both television and films produced by various private television channels are made basically to connect and teach the masses about staying happy and positive during this time in the country where each one can be accountable for their and other people’s lives. Here, television has portrayed itself from the “idiot box” to a box that is full of entertainment, positivity, and most of all motivating.

Apart from spreading awareness about the COVID-19 and the lockdown in the country by private television channels, the government has also looked into the boredom of the people. The government has taken certain measures in helping people to create a positive atmosphere and live in harmony by telecasting programs like “Ramayan” and “Mahabharat”. It aired during 1987-1988 and the series had a viewership of 82 per cent, a record high for any Indian television series, and was telecasted on Doordarshan. This step of government not only helped in breaking the boredom of the people but also helped people to understand the values and culture of the country. These programs have had the highest audience ever, the highest television rating point (TRP), and had broken all records in the history of television. These programs helped society to shape itself in terms of high family values and maintain rich culture, as it is inspired by Indian mythological series. This serial has the teachings of the Lord Rama and is considered to be followed by every Hindu. Same goes for “Mahabharat” This is also a series of Indian Mythology and is based on the teachings of Lord Krishna. Both the serials in the 80’s had a record-breaking viewership. It is said so that people used to finish their work before time whether office work or the work at home and used cancel movie shows and outings just to watch these two programs. It was a great era of these serials to the Indian audience. Serials like these encouraged families to stay together stay affectionate towards the family, neighbors and society. Now, the same can be seen today. The decision taken by the government to telecast these two serials back and develop harmony and sense of responsibility and affection in the family as well as the society is seen. People are watching these two serials and they are rated the most viewed serial in the lockdown period (TV, 2020).

Television has such strong an impact on people that by just watching the serials and the advertisement, it is developing a sense of patience in them along with the responsible attitude. Television can change the attitude in which a person thinks; scientifically, it is proven that watching has a great and deep impact on the person’s brain than reading or hearing. And, in the lockdown situation where people are spending double their time watching television than on normal days, television and its telecast has a great role to play to keeping people positive, motivated, and in a non-panic situation. The government has taken the correct steps to keep the mind of the people positive by showcasing such serials, which help to bring in positivity and work towards a fruitful life. The movie channels also have taken the responsibility of showing movies that hold a lot of patriotic values and unity of the country, so that the negativity and the thoughts of depression do not haunt the minds of the people. The country needs to be united and be strong to fight against this deadly virus hence, the role and impact of television played is a very crucial part in combating the deadly disease today. The spread of the deadly virus has already created a negative environment around people. In such situations, the government and television channel authorities felt the need to build an atmosphere where people can psychologically feel positive and remain calm at their homes. So the programs, serials, and movies telecasted are of the genre where it creates a positive environment.

News channels: playing a crucial role during lockdown:

When we talk about news channels in India, they have a great impact on the Indian audience. The people look forward to the news channel for daily updates and news about what is happening in and around the country. Now, in this alarming time where the country and the world are under lockdown, all the print media is down and social networking is also shut and the people are only left with the choice of viewing television. And, here the television news plays a very crucial and responsible role in creating a peaceful environment and not creating a situation where people lose their calmness and tend to fear the situation. This was seen for the first time from the past two decades that the whole family is sitting together and watching the news and getting itself updated. News was the only modem that the people relied in the initial two weeks of the lockdown. But the Indian news channels need to be applauded for keeping the people completely aware of the situation and even sending out messages of keeping oneself calm and patient as the government is doing all the needful to provide and keep the common man comfortable. Initially, two days of the lockdown created a panic situation in the people that they would be ration i.e. food and grocery available in the coming days, which forced people to buy large stocks of food items for their houses. But, because of the continuous reporting and flashing of the appeal of the government to people of not panicking in the current scenario by the news channel had put a great sigh of relief in them, and the situation of over-buying was slowly fading out. This situation of unbalanced buying was coming to a halt only because the news channels who responsibly reported the news in both ways. The government also cannot work without the support of the news channels in this situation and the same is the people they cannot understand the severity of the situation without the news media. The Prime Minister of India needs television to address the nation and appeal to the country, whether he wants to appeal for the lockdown of the country or to make announcements to encourage the people working around the clock for the country. The people connect to the prime minister through television, which gives them the sense that he is talking to each individual. Many announcements and crucial appeals have been made in this lockdown through television. The chief ministers of every state are also taking the help of news channels to appeal and send information to the people. In this crisis situation, the only medium which is proved to be very effective in communication between the authorities and the general people, it is the television and the news channels working for it. The news channels, along with the government, are also playing a crucial role in creating awareness among people in different ways. For example, according to the BARC’s rating, Aaj tak the most watched news channel of 2020 has commercial running in the animated form. The children are very fond of watching cartoons and enjoy watching it and even learn from it, what corona virus is and, how to keep themselves safe from it. This animated advertisement is quite popular with the children and they eagerly wait for the advertisement to play again. Also, it runs an online “Antakshri” program which is very popularly played in Indian families and friends for their entertainment and time pass, people from all around the country can participate and sing along with each other. Thus, people can connect to each other and the bonds of unity and harmony are not broken. It also showcased videos made by the common people showing their different talents may it be, cooking, yoga, and physical fitness singing or dancing. Such steps are keeping many people in the country together and helping them to think better and positive. On the other hand, the founder of the Republic news channel, Mr. Arnab Goswami, kept on appealing in his channel time and again to follow the rules of lockdown, stay home stay safe. By doing so, will be the greatest help for the nation. News channels have adopted various strategies in order to keep the country boosted up and tried not to Detroit the positivity in the people. The News Channels has also molded itself into both informative and entertaining i.e. An infotainment platform where the complete family enjoys watching the news channel and keeps themselves free from the fake news received from other sources. The news channels also showed videos and covered events where people and the NGO’s have come out to help each other to provide migrants, laborer class, and the poor with food, water, and shelter. This picture of India shown in the worst of its time where the entire world is battling with the crisis makes the people connect with television emotionally and is working as a therapy where positivity overshadows negativity.

Findings:

The findings of this study suggest that a country can stay positive and motivated if the government and the media help each other and work together to keep the general public calm and compost. It is true that in the pandemic disease spread, the lockdown was a necessary step and shutting the complete country and imposing punishments if the law of lockdown was breached would create a very frustrating and ugly mindset of many Indians.

·       Effective health communication by the television which helps in creating a healthy awareness of the people of the country. There are a lot of informative and educative programs that are broadcasted on television.

·       Television is a highly strong and impactful medium to the country under severe and disastrous conditions. It is a medium that can be behind the peace or destructions of the country. It can strengthen family bonds and help in reducing domestic conflict and violence.

·       Television medium can create effective strategies for helping individuals understand the importance of social and physical distancing. It is a mode that largely helps in spreading awareness campaigns and helps in getting effective results.

·       The viewers connect to the television emotionally, and as a result it can be a medium where it can work on the psychological factors of the human.

·       This can be a strong medium in bridging the gap between the countrymen and the civil administration for fast and large appeals and information to be made.

·       It can bring a significant change in society. Specially, when a country with large a population is battling through the most deadly pandemics. It can play a very effective and impactful role in overshadowing negativity with positivity.

·       Television is easing life of students with respect to their academic learning as they can watch the lecture or speech of any of the renowned domain experts.

·       There is a rapid increase in the country population, and television as a communication medium helps the government make people of the country aware of various family planning schemes.

·       Television is an effective medium for entertainment, and pleasure, as games and sports are also televised along with other entertainment shows related to cooking, gardening, painting, mountaineering, multimedia enabled animated serials, etc.

·       A plentiful of information related to the health of crops, soil fertility, modern farm equipments, organic farming, irrigation, etc. is being telecasted, which is regularly viewed by farmers.

Practical Implications of Research for the Society:

The paper can be used for further reference, where researchers can find post-pandemic impacts because of television. They can also study what role television played when there was complete lockdown in the country on them. The togetherness and the happiness shared within the family is one of the most important aspects for humans, and when there is panic all around and the people want a source that can give them a clear and exact picture, news plays a crucial role. This brings them a sense of ease and loosens their fright to some extent. Hence, emotional connectivity with television starts to develop and can have great impacts on various emotions on the people. Hence, the psychological impact of television during the pandemic can be a big research area, and government and television officials can be ready in future for such programs, serials and many more to imagine.

This will help future researchers to study and carry further research on post effects and impacts on the country on how people entertained themselves and which medium played the most significant role in keeping them motivated, positive, united, and mostly informed when the lockdown is completely taken back and the life of the country and people comes to normal.

The study in the future can also be on finding practical ways to make the environmental clean and green as the ongoing virus pandemic is alerting present scientists and researchers across the world of the threats entire mankind may have to face if they continue depleting environment health with usage of plastic and more carbon emission industrial practices. The role of communication medium in creating awareness about clean, safer, and greener environments can be studied post lockdown periods.

During the present lockdown, people in homes are giving more importance to health and fitness; this can also be studied by researchers on how television contributed to prioritizing people lives in making physical health as the top priority than material health.

The corona-virus pandemic will lead to massive societal disruption, as people are adopting social distancing as a proactive measure not to affect by virus caused disease. This will negatively impact services of travel, tourism, hospitality, educational institutions, religious organizations, or other mass gathering activities. Thus, people who are feeling most emotionally connected with their family members due to the increased telecast of social and family values shows will be looking for their health and safety concerns. Future researchers may study which medium is making them most aware about new changing lifestyle concerns.
